A Rashid Khan

Looking for tasty Mee Siam? Have you tried A Rashid Khan?

This stall is famous for its Mee Siam and Mutton Soup recommended by my Muslim pals. Having tried its original plate of mee siam (costs $3) last year, I had upgraded by recent purchases by adding mutton cubes on the tasty meal.

The bee hoon came in good bright orange color which were soft and soaked in the sweet soury Mee Siam gravy. Though it had chilli paste added, it was not that spicy as one would have thought. In addition, the gravy has hints of peanut fragrant.

Plate of Mutton Mee Siam - $5
I love the tangy taste of the gravy and the chewy mutton meat added with not too strong "mutton" smell. What's more, instead of the usual half half boil egg or none we got from a plate of mee siam, A Rashid Khan had 1 placed on each serving.

So far this is one of better mee siam that i had ever encountered.

Fatty Weng Shi Tan

If you want to enjoy some hot stuff over the fire at your dining table, Fatty Weng Shi Tan will be a good choice. Besides famous for their their Seafood Tom Yam Soup, their hot pot dishes and flaming fires had caught good attention to the patrons in FEAST food court. They are not difficult to locate in fact, just walk straight into the food court and you will be able to find them on the right.

Fatty Weng Shi Tan
Each set cost $6 which comes with a plate of ingredient and noodles or rice at your choice. We opted for noodles to pair along with the ingredients we had together with the herbs flavour stock instead of tom yum.

Noodle
The metalic pots were hot over the fire with slices of herbs inputs - wolf-berries and dates.

Hot Pot with Herbs Stock
Portion on the ingredients was quite ok with Tang Hoon, chicken slices, mushrooms as well as leafy greens.

Chicken and Mushrooms
For the Seafood set, it comes with toufu, crabsticks, fishballs, sotong balls, sliced fish, tomatoes as well as mushrooms and vegetables.

Seafood Set
Although the items were simple and commonly used for steamboat, I will recommend this if you need something soupy and hot. For those who likes Tom Yum, that is a must try!

Japanese Fast Food - Pork Katsu Curry Don

It marked another visit to the Japanese Fast Food Stall in West Coast. In the last article, I had their Oyako Don which had left me a good impression on their Japanese Cuisine. This time round I went ahead to order their Pork Katsu Curry Don and was served by the lady who I assume is the stall owner. Just like the young lady who had served me previously, she was full of Japanese accent during the process of my order and end with a "Arigatou Gozamashita" which generally means Thank You.

A closer look at the stall, it mentioned that "All Items were cooked by Japanese" which had strongly emphasized that the cook is a Japanese.

The thinly coated battered on the pork katsu was crisply fried till golden brown and the meat was tender. Served in a leaf shape bowl, the overall presentation had scored with its generous filling of Sweet Japanese Curry with notable chunks of softened carrots and potatoes

Pork Katsu Curry Don - $6.50
Still, with such serving, $6.50 a plate is in fact reasonable considering ingredients used and its cost. Perhaps whenever I think of authentic Japanese Coffeeshop Food, Japanese Fast Food will come first in my mind.

He Xing Ru Wei

He Xing Ru Wei is located at a very prominent place of Happy Hawkers in Jurong East, just at the entrance of the coffee shop. The braised duck rice stall came to my attention as I saw a long queue line up along the counter of the stall over the weekends. Without much hesitation, i joined the queue for its porridge. While I was queuing, I noitced that they were selling Pig organ soup as well as braised pig trotters and meat.

Ordering was make efficient with a guy going down the queue joting down the orders on his handbook and thereafter conveyed to the stall helper.

Menu and stall
Porridge was not too starchy and came with adequate amount of braised duck and few scoops of braised sauce pour on the top. Chopped parsley and fried onions were loaded w to enahanced its taste. Of so many braised duck porridge I had eaten, they are the only one that provided braised peanuts on top of the braised meat.

Braised Duck Porridge - $3.30
For those who prefer to have a filling meal, you can try out their Duck Rice Set. Simply love its yam rice in brown with braised peanuts, eggs, Tau Gua and meat.

Duck Rice Set - $4.50
Though the taste were pretty average, the braised meat were pretty well done and one can actually taste the intensity of those braised flavors as we have a bite on the meat.

Like most of the braised duck stall, besides selling duck, they do offer Kway Chap.

Kway

Braised items were not very oily and was real tasty.

Braised Items for Kway Chap
So far He Xing Ru Wei is one of the better choices for Braised Meat Items and Kway Chap in Jurong East Area. Just look at the queues they had, that wont lie about everyone's likings in such delicacies.

Different Taste Cafe and Restaurants [Closed]

Congrats to colleagues who got their long service awards and treated us to this sumptuous lunch at Different Taste Cafe and Restaurants.

Different Taste is rather popular among my colleagues for its location and value for money prices (without 7% GST). It is listed as our to visit whenever we wants to dine in a big group over lunch.

Different Taste Cafe and Restaurants
Environment was straight forward and simple, nothing fanciful with big round tables taking up most of the dining floor area.

Dining Area

Dining as a group of 5, we ordered a Chinese New Year set menu for 4 but with some dishes upgraded and with an additional bowl of rice.

Fish maw soup is a Chinese New Year dish that cannot be missed especially. The big pot of gooly starchy fish maw with crab meat soup were sub-divided out portionately in 5 portions for us but of course with extra. This "shark fin" alike soup is hot and together with a spoonful of vinegar and few sprinkle of pepper would enhance the overall taste of the soup.

Fish Maw Crab Meat Soup 鱼鳔蟹肉羹

Besides having the fish maw, we had the curry fish head in claypot as well. Meat was pretty fresh with pineapple, ladyfingers, tomatoes added in which gave a sour and sweet tasting level to the dish.

Curry Fish Head 咖喱鱼头

To me the Crispy thai chicken was quite a let down, i'm expecting more meat then just crispily fried chicken skin with shredded vegetables with sweet and sour thai sauce.

Crispy Thai Chicken 泰式鸡

On the other hand, Kai Lan in oyster sauce and fried onion bits were pretty ordinary.

Baby Kai Lan With Oyster Sauce 蚝油小芥兰

Instead of having salad prawns, we opted for wasabi prawns. Each of the prawns were coated with adequate amount of wasabi cream and sprinkled with sesame seats. These prawns once bitten, it let out a springy feel which gave a good overall experience on the dish.

Wasabi Prawns

The prawn balls looked pretty dry. The crispy outlook at the outside with a faint brown color was not that appealing when placed on the table.Taste wise, it was pretty average.

Heh Chor aka Prawn Balls
In a overview, I would say that different taste cafe and restaurants offer a satisfiable meal at a value cost comparable to most of the zi char stall. What's more, there is no service charge and GST charge required.

Million Fishball Noodle

Tucked at a corner of 130 BGAIN Eating House of Jurong Gateway road, Million stall sells a fair share of yummy fishball noodles. The stall was pasted with articles complimenting its delicious bowl of noodles, especially on its freshness of fishballs.

Million Fishball Noodle Stall

Im not a fan of fishballs, thus I got mushroom and minced meat noodle as my order. Mee Pok had a consistent texture and blended well with the brown sauce from the braised mushroom as well as the spicy chilli sauce.

Mushroom & Minced Meat Noodle (Mee Pok Dry) - $3.50
Coupled with a handful of minced meat and a few pieces of lettuce to pair along with the bowl of noodles. I realized that they had a different method of cooking, the prawns and minced meat were cooked way before hand and stored in a separate bowl. They were only placed on top of the noodle once the noodles were evenly mixed by the stall assistant.

Set with Soup
Overall, I find that bowl of noodle was pretty decent over the lunch meal. Nothing much to rave about.

Sukho Thai

Sukho Thai is housed in 130 BGain Eating House just right beside the CPF building of Jurong East.
Consider that it is located in a coffeeshop, I was rather amazed by the extensive menu they had plastered right next to the entrance of the stall. They offered a wide variety from noodles to individual dishes and even desserts.

Sukho Thai Stall Front

The stall assistants looked stern and did not smile much during my time of visit.Self service is observed and food that is ready to be served will be placed at the trays on the counter.  The plate of Phad Thai Seafood Noodle that I had ordered  looked appetizing with eggs, peanuts, chilli flakes, stalks of coriander leaves and a big lemon wedge by the side of the plate.

Dish was savory and sweet with generous portions of ingredients given like squid, eggs and beansprouts. Factoring the cost and the quality of food I had received, I dont mind going back again to try other dish like they chicken ball Tang Hoon which is not commonly seen from the Thai Hawker Stall.
