G Meal

For those who love fried chicken and roast chicken, you may want to try out G Meal if you are in Seah Im Food Center. While trying to secure a table during the peak hours, we had ourselves seated in from of G Meal and decided to go for their chicken Rice.

Stall of G Meal

G Meal is not the conventional Chinese Chicken Rice Stall where we get our roasted or poached chicken rice, instead, they are into fried or smoked chicken paired with fries or fragrant rice. They served 2 kinds of chilli, Hainanese chicken rice garlic chili and the usual chilli sauce.

Fried Chicken Cutlet Rice - $6.50

The rice was fragrant and the fried chicken cutlet had a different seasoning apart from the usual chicken cutlet we had. It was fragrant and the layer of batter was softer, not too much of a rough texture.

There was a smoky taste in the half chicken. The outer layer of skin tasted yummy but the chicken meat was on a dry side.

Half Smoke Chicken with Rice - $6.50

Overall, the menu was rather straightforward, having smoked/fried chicken paired with either fries or rice. The food was served on a big plate which makes the meal's portion look little. It will be completed if there are sides like vegetables to strike out a balanced meal or make the dish a little bit more interesting.

Cheng Ji Chao Xia Mian Hao Jian 成記炒蝦麵蠔煎

I have seen a handful of tables having a plate of Fried Oyster and was curious about the taste. No doubt that the reviews online did not side the stall, there is still a substantial queue lining up during peak hours.

Stall of Cheng Ji Chao Xia Mian Hao Jian

The stall is known for its Hokkien Mee & Fried Oyster, thus we decided to order both.

Our Orders

The Hokkien Mee comprised a mixture of thick yellow noodles and white noodles with eggs, Sotong beansprouts and prawns, garnished with spring onions and lime with a dollop of chilli tuck by the side. The dish was quite straightforward and ordinary, its not those savoury thick prawns broth style or those that are packed with Wok Hei taste if you are looking for one. Decent enough if you are looking for a meal to fill your stomach.

Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee - $3

My personal preference will be their Fried Oyster if I were to compare both dishes that we had ordered. The Fried Oyster has a good ratio of starch and egg, crispily fried with a charred taste. The chilli that was supposed to enhance the taste was diluted.  Nevertheless, the dish goes well alone too without it.

Fried Oyster - $3.50

Perhaps it was our day as we did not have any unpleasant encounters with the lady behind the stove. Overall, the taste is on average with pocket-friendly pricing. Looks like its time to explore other stalls within that Food Centre.

#MakanBoleh

#MakanBoleh is one of the many stalls in Seah In Food Centre recommended by people online for its Epok Epok during afternoon timing. It threw me a surprise that the turnover for their fried fritters was wiped up pretty fast when they are doled out from the kitchen.

I have no choice but to exercise the "Kiasu" behaviour and hurried over to join the queue. However, those customers in front of me make my heart beat faster when I heard their orders every time as they are buying a lot and I wonder if there are enough in the batch for my purchase.

The Banana Balls were dark brown in colour with a crispy exterior skin but as we sink our teeth in, the texture was spongy and the inside was filled with air pockets.

Fried Banana Balls - 4 for $1

To my surprise, the Banana balls were packed of Banana Fragrant and I could not resist having more of them even though I just completed my lunch.

I had Vadi recently and even though this Vadai is of original flavour (plain), the fragrance is commendable. Enjoy your pieces of Vadai munching together with the green chillis.

Vadai - 3 for $2

This needs no introduction. There are many versions of names whichever you called it, curry puff, kali pap or even Epok Epok. Apparently, #MakanBoleh is lauded for their Epok Epok. The $1 you spend here is a bang on your buck. The crust has cradle the fillings tightly, not allowing them to disintegrate. The ingredients are generous and the taste is consistent.

The Potatoes were firm and you get a quarter of the hard boil egg within. What I like most was that the fillings are moist and this is definitely one of the better Malay Epok Epok that I ever had at a dollar.
