Pin Wei Hong Kong Style Chee Cheong Fun

If you are in Pek Kio Market & Food Centre, you will notice the few stalls that will alway have a continuous stream of queue in front of their stall and Pin Wei Hong Kong Style Chee Cheong Fun is just one of them.

Stall Front

Pin Wei is selling Hong Kong Style Chee Cheong Fun that is freshly made on the spot in front of the customers' eyes. They are also listed under the Michelin Guide. Prices range from $3 - $6 per roll. They have the original Chee Cheong Fun (CCF) or you can add on with fillings like Char Siew, Prawns and even scallops.

Every piece of Chee Cheong Fun was painstakingly made on the spot using the traditional method, pouring the batter that is made up of tapioca and rice flour over a cloth then placed over the flat steamer with holes, forming a sheet.

Preparation of Chee Cheong Fun with Prawn

Once done, this sheet will be passed over to the next staff at work, she will start greasing the steel top with a brush full of cooking oil and then start using placing the sheet on the steel top. Thereafter, using the plastic scraper to scrape off the sheet, forming a roll of silky delicious Chee Cheong Fun.

Unliked the usual Chee Cheong Fun we had with thicked sweet and brown sauce, Pin Wei's adopts the Cantonese style of CCF whereby they made use of fragrant and light soy sauce like sauces. It's really delicious and the style suits me. It is better to consume them while they are fresh and hot.
