Sarawak Delicacy Laksa & Kolo Mee

The craving for Sarawak Kolo Mee has always been there since having my first bowl many years back. The queue in Bedok North Street's coffee shop is not a surprising sight for many and some might even need to wait up to an hour for their order.

In order not to make the trip wasted, I had ordered an additional bowl of noodle. Oh No, my belly is getting rounder...

Dishes Ordered, $5 per bowl

The main reason for my trip is none other than their staple Kolo Mee. Springy noodle that is tossed in a mixture of shallot oil, pork lard, accompanied by a handful of minced meat and char siew meat. I enjoyed the in-depth flavour and sweetness from the bowl.

Comparing to the former bowl, the difference is an additional add on of Soya Sauce to the Kolo Mee. This is a popular version of the Kolo Mee Ordered and if you don't want to go for the plain Kolo Mee, this is one of the closest choice.

In general, I'm not a laksa lover but I was torn between the Kolo Mee and their signature dish, Sarawak Laksa, ending up I have to order both of them. Luckily, I did not make the wrong choice. The bowl of laksa comes in two sizes, $5 or $7 portion. The main ingredients used were fresh prawns, bean sprouts, shredded egg and lots of shredded chicken. The style of Sarawak Broth given was a light creaminess and good consistency of coconut milk, rather comforting to the stomach.

Sarawak Laksa

The Sarawak Laksa Beehoon is great on its own but it will be perfect if you add in the given dollop of Sarawak Belachan. The black looking paste looks simple on its own but it packed a good punch of prawn flavours which reminds me of prawn paste used in preparing prawn paste chicken.

My travel down to the Eastern Part of Singapore is worthwhile. I don't mind returning back to the same place for a bowl of Kolo Mee again should I have any cravings for it.
