Hougang Muah Chee

We chanced by the area in Toa Payoh again and we have skipped our routine in joining the long queuing rojak and decided we should have a small bite from Hougang Muah Chee to gain some nostalgic feel.

Unlike the rojak stall that is located right next to the escalator, Hougang Muah Chee is located further into the food court, Gourmet Paradise of the HDB hub.

There are a number of disappearing Old School Food in Singapore and one of it is this Hougang 6 Miles Famous Muah Chee. Googled it and you will find that they are one of the "Lost & Found" food in Singapore.

Stall Front

Let's look at the traditional "mochi" snacks that what we Singaporeans enjoy!

The medium portion is good for sharing between 2 pax. Instead of using scissors to cut the raw Muah Chee from the warmer, he was seen using his hands to nip it. Believe it or not, it was said that using scissors in cutting will make the Muah Chee lose its bounciness.

The stall owner coated them individual with shallot oil and in its respective Peanut and Black Sesame container.

Muah Chee - $3.50 (Medium)

Indeed the Muah Chee tasted differently from the ones I used to have from Pasar Malam. Theirs are softer and more tender. It's definitely chewier than the usual ones I had. Comparing the coating of the ground peanuts and sesame, the sweetness level was on the average.

Black Vs White

Though chewy, my conclusion was that it was not warm enough and it lacks the kind of peanuty fragrance that what I have called it as "Muah Chee".
