Our usual weekends activities are always packed witih Food Exploring and this time round we had found some simple food that was located in the once very popular mall in Bukit Timah Vicinity.

Reference Book - Menu

Occupying an unit in Bukit Timah Plaza, Liu San Ge was recommended for its humble Taiwanese Food, with well known standard Taiwanese Dish like Braised Pork Rice, Oyster Mee Sua etc.

Shop Front

Dining area was located at the opened area in front the the shop, just beside the mall's railings. Settings was quite traditional looking with wooden tables and benches. A few ladies was seen ever ready to service us as we approached the unit. Their service was attentive and quick, above average.

Iced Rice Milk was surprisingly good. Tasted close to a bag of roasted Rice Tea, it totally floats my boat as it was neither too milky nor chalky. The light rice aroma and the cooling part during consumption was just too good to be true.

Cost: $2.80 / Cup

Oh No! Their signature's oyster mee sua was sold out :( and I had Noodle with Minced Pork Soup as the alternative. The broth was not too bad with soft soggy hand made noodles soaked within. It was also heavily garnished with beansprouts and spring onions. Simple yet fulfilling.

Cost: $6.10

Stated on the blackboard, Fish Ganache Rice requires some waiting time. A simple dish that was made special by deep-frying the fish fillet added with some cheese favour mayonnaise over it. It comes with a bowl of shredded cabbages heavily sprinkled with black vinegar used by the Xiao Long Baos.

A popular classic if you are going for Taiwanese dishes. The braised pork belly was flavourful and was not fatty. These meat were served on top of the pearly white short grain rice with chewy braised egg as well as pickled cucumber slices.

Braised Pork Rice with Egg 卤肉饭 - $7.30

This is not the usual Singaporean chicken rice that we have from the hawker center. Using chicken drumstick, the style of serving was neither poached nor roasted. The meal was served with pickled cucumber by the side.

台湾油鸡饭 Braised Chicken Rice - $7

The chicken was moist and flavorful with some braised sauce coated over it.

The combination of natural sweetness from the egg and tanginess from the chopped tomato had make the dish delectable. Though it may look simple, the choice of tomato is rather important as it will determine the taste of the dish.

Stirred Fried Tomato with Egg 番茄炒蛋 - $7.80

Chicken was stirred fried together with 3 sauces as well as ginger, spring onion and basil leaves. I find that it tasted special from the usual 3 Cups chicken I had. The dish is a little oily but still a well executed dish with tender chicken pieces served in a small claypot.

3 Cups Chicken 三杯鸡 - $9.80

This soup noodle is also one of the popular dishes. Ingredients include sliced beef shanks, carrot, vegetables, homemade pickles and handmade noodles. The broth was light and tasty, not over powering. However, we get a little bit thirsty after the food. Dish might be a little spicy for some.

Taiwan Beef Soup 台湾牛肉面 - $8

The dish was recommended by the cashier. Marinated pickles and shredded Pork served with handmade noodle in soup. The soup is light and was not overly salty.

Homemade Noodle with Spicy Pickles and Pork 榨菜肉丝面 - $7.30

The combination was tummy warming and comes with a sense of homely feel.

Perhaps we might not agree that the Taiwanese style of food is the most authentic over here but it still have some resemblance over Taiwanese Food and fits the bill whenever there is a craving for homely Taiwanese style food.
