Phati Thai Food

Phati Thai Food has been in my "To Eat" list ever since I saw their stall but many a time that I was too carried away by other good food in Alexandra Village that I forget about Phati Thai Food. And finally, I had a chance for their Thai Food after so long.

With two Thai ladies handling the stall, there is no doubt about the authenticity of the cuisine. I kind of surprise that they do have chinese zi char dishes like Hor Fun, Fried Kway Teow, Balachan Fried Rice available.

I went ahead ordering one of my favourite thai dishes, Fried Vermicelli (Known as 'Tang Hoon'). It was a tad salty perhaps it was the Thai way of enjoying the cuisine with every dishes loaded with good amount of fish sauce.

Fried Vermicelli - $4

I felt that it is quite hard to come by Thai Hawkers in Food Centre especially. The food is acceptable and since I have only tried one of their dishes, it makes a good reason for me to be back to explore other delicacies.

Lee Kee 李記

Lee Kee had established since 1979 and was formerly from Tanglin Koek Road. Right now, they are located in Ayer Rajah Food Centre at the last row of chinese stalls facing the carpark.

Noodles was "Q" enough with generous amount of gravy poured over the roasted delights. Greens were added to complement the dish. I was somehow hooked to the soup as it was tasty and to my liking.

Roast Duck Noodles - $3
Roasted meat was what they were good at, look at the crackling skin on this chopped slices of roasted duck with its even reddish brown tone glistering. The meat was succulent and tender, filling a satisfaction in me.

Boon Lay Fried Carrot Cake & Kway Teow Mee 文礼炒菜头粿 粿条面

How about the combination of a delicious plate of Char Kway Teow (CKT) topped with some "Bah Hu" (Meat Floss), you got it here in Boon Lay Place Market and Food Village.

The founder of this stall had started frying the plate of CKT since 1956 and till today its quite hard to find CKT that comes with "Bah Hu".

I quite like the combination as i find them very special, moreover i love "bah hu". The CKT was fried quite well and moist enough. The use of dark black sauce was consistent throughout the plate. Given that the whole plate was in dull brown color, those greens added had actually enlightened the presentation of the plate! Yum Yum!

Lai Yi Wan 来一碗酿豆腐 [Closed]

A quirky stall name "Lai Yi Wan" when translated, it means "come, have a bowl" is spotted in Boon Lay Place Food Village selling Yong Tau Foo (YTF). The selection is fixed on the menu and patrons do not need to choose their preferred item like the usual YTF Stall.

Lai Yi Wan

Opted Bee Hoon for the cheapest set on its menu and was given quite an assortment of YTF in the bowl. The soup was light flavoured with common items like Tau Kua and other with fish paste. Perhaps what was different was its prawns item which was in faint orange color and the other in green color. Another thing to note will be the sauces where we dabbed our YTF with. The disposable saucer were already prepared with half filled of chilli and the other with sweet sauce. Chilli was rather spicy but "shiok" in my opinion.

Qing Tian Leng Ri Tian Pin

If you heard loud blasting techno music or see the colorful signboards in Redhill Food Centre, that's Qing Tian Cold Hot Dessert.

Besides the LED lights,  scrolling panels welcoming its patrons and the long queues that had caught my attention, I'm totally amazed by the uncle who behaved following to the rhythm of the music as in shaking his bon bon along with the pounding beats as the song played. He looked full of enthusiasm in his work!

Qing Tian Leng Ri Tian Pin
After so much of tasting of Chendol, I still prefer those with Gula Melaka. Over here, their ice was finely shaved and melted once touches the tongue. Coconut milk used in the chendol was light and contained a good scent.

Chendol - $1.50
Desserts like Cheng Tng was more of less similar to the usual ones we had from food courts and hawkers. The only difference that I notice was that red beans was part of their ingredients.

Cheng Tng - $1.50
If you ask me to explain the long queue, it may be most probably due to that it is the only dessert stall in operation during dinner hours and of course, I will feel more energetic after seeing the folk dance in joy while enjoying his work.

Serangoon Garden Fried Prawn Noodle

Torn among the availability of Fried Prawn Mee stalls in 85 Redhill Food centre, it took us quite some time in choosing the "right" stall as most of them do have the award-winning stickers and celebrities photos pasted in front of the stall.

As I approached the stall to order a portion of S$4.00 (dine in), I was given a friendly smile and was asked if I do have the time to wait for 10 minutes. Although I'm in a rush, I have agreed without much hesitation.

I was rather surprised to see the number of people waiting when I was back in 10 minutes. The cook was still stirring and preparing the full wok of prawn mee while the other guy was preparing the ingredients for each order in a small container.

Serangoon Garden Fried Prawn Noodle Stall
The well-fried delicious prawn mee is thoroughly coated with the savory concentrated essence of prawns. Remarkably tasted with "wok hei", the noodles are slightly wet and consistent in taste. Crispy "Bak Poh" was tucked on the side of the plates together with a small little green lime. Enjoy the plate of mouth watering prawn noodles with the "shioking-ly" good chilli paste with fresh prawns, sotong, thinly sliced meat and egg.

Fu Ming Cooked Food

85 Redhill Food Centre is one of my favourites hawker Center One. Convinced by the media adverts under his signboards and the certificates awarded to them, I dedcided to tried their carrot cake. Revealing the curiosity in me, I had ordered both the black and white version on a plate.

While most of the hawkers have their carrot cake bought from the factories, Fu Ming had theirs made and steamed by themselves which stands up among the rest.

Fu Ming Cooked Food

Chai Tow Kway (Carrot Cake) were cut into large chunks unlike those we saw in most food courts, the sizes are almost the same and consistent. Portion ranges from $2 - $4 with the choice of black or white.

As a whole, the steamed radish cake was significantly softer and spongy than the usual ones. The stark difference is perhaps the cripsy char that is attached to the pieces of Kway which striked a good balance of the softness nature. The black version of carrot cake was coated with sweet black sauce, even after having them, they were not cloying at all while the white version has its own traits, it was wrapped up with egg, lending additional sweet flavours to the plain steamed cake!
Black & White Version - $4
Just being homemade, they had already won my vote, not to mention that they have won quite a number of awards and starring in the media.
