Goodview Garden Seafood

As you drive up the hill and into the raised HDB flats, this is where Goodview Garden Seafood is located. The area was rather airy as the ground units were already located in the 3rd storey of a normal HDB flat.

Most of the stalls were closed except the mixed vegetables rice stall and Goodview Zichar.

Goodview Garden Seafood

Once we were seated, we received the Zichar menu which was pretty extensive and colorful with dishes all printed, prices clearly stated on both front and back of the menu.

Menu

The back of the menu was clear with different categories of food segregated by colors.

Back of Menu

We ordered the basic dishes from its noodle category and they were not bad afterall. The fried vermicelli tasted slightly above my expectation. Though I would have prefer them to be served in darker brown with hints of lime juice, they were already good. Vermicelli was soft and moist with beansprouts added. Substantial amount of ingredients like sliced pork, carrots, eggs, fish cakes and prawns were added too. On a slight note, they did have the "Wok" taste with some burned marks on them. Totally the Zichar style that I'm looking for!

Fried Vermicelli - $4.50 (Small)

While another noodle dish we ordered fare above average too. Ingredients on the cripsy noodle was similar to what I had in fried vermicelli. Looks like there was a "overdose" of vegetables added. The gravy was filled with "Wah Tan" (egg) and go well with the fried crispy noodle.

Fried Crispy Noodle - $3.50 (Small)
All in all, I'm glad that basic dishes like this was cooked well.

Braised Duck Porridge

He Ji 合记 is one of the two braised duck stall located in West Coast Market Square. A good contrast of lighting from the stall with its sign board under the florescent white light while the braised items were shone under the warm orangy lightings. Business was seen relatively good during lunch hours as compared to its competing stall in the same Hawker Centre.

Braised Duck Stall
Decided to go for a lighter meal for lunch, I had a portion of braised duck porridge ordered with braised egg added . The porridge was topped with crispy fried bee hoon, chopped spring onions and scoops of sweet braised sauce added together with duck meat bits. Porridge was a little gluey, not really diluted.

Porridge - $3 + Braised Egg $0.50
Give a good stir in the porridge and you will find the amount of meat given was just sufficient, not too little nor too loaded. Overall, I find that the bowl of porridge was rather stomach comforting and not oily at all, a good choice for a light meal.

Paris Western Grill

Paris Western Grill is one of the stalls selling western delights out of a total of 2 stalls in Clementi West Street 2 Hawker Centre. Business for them was competitive as the rate they offered are indeed value worth for money! If you are a western food lover and happen to be nearby, this is a good alternative stomach filler to the fast food outlets!

There was no queue during the time of visit perhaps food are served throughout their service. My order was a breeze as the auntie was real friendly.

Stall of Paris Western Grill

When I showed my pal on this dish, he asked "where where did you order this plate of Bak kut Mee".  *Laughs*

Perhaps it does really looks like one but this is Paris Western Grill Chicken Chop Spaghetti. Besides having spaghetti, customers get to have the option of fried rice. There were a wide variations like Lamb chop, pork chop, steak etc. A look at the signboard would speak a thousand words.

Chicken Chop Spaghetti - $4.50
The chicken chop was coated with sweet brown sauce, close to mushroom sauce and was tasty. Perhaps the only letdown of its meat was that once in a while you get to taste the "frozen" meat smell between the bites. Other than that, the spaghetti texture was smooth and cooked to perfection. It was a little hard & not soggy at all.

Chicken Chop

After trying out their Chicken Chop Spaghetti and Fried Rice, I would prefer the latter as I find that was much more worth while and interesting with more items added (baked bean and coleslaw), also adding more colors to the plate.

For those who are battling with time during lunch time like me, the service from the lady was friendly and good. In fact she told me upfront that the estimated waiting time was required and the overall transaction with her was a polite one.

Krispy Kreme

Krispy Kreme! The doughnuts that was a talk of the town since its opening in October 2013 at the basement of Tangs Plaza. The queue was not as long as I had expected on a Sunday morning and we decided to join and check it out.

Krispy Kreme
The selection of flavours were much more than I expected, I was told that there were about 16 kinds of flavours. I bought a dozen of them and had them packed into 2 boxes. For a dozen of assorted donuts, it costs $26.50 while for original glazed flavour, it costs only about $23.50

Customer can opt for 1 big box or 2 small boxes to contain the dozen of donuts.

Separated into 2 boxes

We could not resist the temptation and immediately after paying up at the counter, we sat at one of their corners and decided to munch them up!

Half a dozen

We took the counter seat and just in front, this was what we saw on the wall.
On its wall

Ta-da, here's what we had bought.
From left to right (Top to Bottom Row) :
Row 1: Red Velet Powered Strawberry Filled, chocolate Ice glazed, Original glazed,
Row 2: Chocolate Dream cake,  Peanut Butter, Cinnamon Apple Filled, Almond all over,
Row 3:  Coffee, Cookies and Cream, Cappuccino and glazed vanilla cake

The doughnuts overall was different as they were not oily and every bite on the doughnut, you will realized that the interior was packed with mini bits of crumbs which gave a different sensational level while enjoying the assorted flavours.

Dozen of Doughnuts

Just at the side of the box, there was a illustration on how to enjoy hot original glazed doughnuts anytime by putting them in the microwave and ready to serve in 8 seconds.

Safe to eat for Muslims pals as Krispy Kreme is Halal Certified. Staws, serviettes, sugar etc can be obtain at their self service counter.

Halal Certified
To sum up, each donut costs about $2 plus and price was dear. They were too sweet for me just to go plain without any cup of beverages. I'm not a fan of donuts but it still beats me as I still could not understand the hype over such pricy doughnuts.

Wu Ba Ye Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee

This fried Hokkien Prawn Mee Stall is one of those few stalls that use Opal Leaf for their dish. Popular among the patrons, it was quite usual to see that a queue was form in front of their stall.

Wu Ba Ye Fried Hokkein Prawn Mee Stall
They offer a variety of dishes and even beansprouts and cockles which is quite a rare dish sold in most of the hawker stalls.

Variety of Dishes Sold

I cant remember the number of times I had been patronizing this stall but their Hokkien mee and char kway teow is one of the best in Ayer Rajah Hawker Centre. Every dish was cooked based on order basis and always hot from the wok.

Opal leaf was also used for its Char Kway Teow Dish during serving. The dish was made up of Kway Teow and a small portion of yellow mee coated and fried with sweet tasty black sauce. Sufficient amount of chinese sausages, fishcakes, beansprouts and eggs were added summing up the dish.

Fried Kway Teow - $3 (Small)
What I like about its Kway Teow is that they had adopted the traditional way in cooking by using pork lard which gave a good fragrant Kway Teow.

Kee Hock Stall Beef Hor Fun

Kee Hock is highly recommended by my colleague who is a fan of its tasty plate of Beef Hor Fun.

Stall of Kee Hock

I'm not very keen on such a dish especially when it was make up of big size kway Teow with starchy gravy, the thought of having Hor Fun as my meal would not even have come into my mind.

Afterall Kee Hock did not disappoint. The gravy was dark brown in color with visible amount of egg added and every spoonful of gravy was filled with egg without fail.

Beef Hor Fun - $4.50
When it comes to Hor Fun, I'm rather particular if they do have Wok Hei taste - if not it would be rather "bored" i the dish. And yes, they do! Every piece of Kway Teow was smeared with luscious gravy together with the "charred" taste. Ingredients like beef slices was thick and generous accompanied by a few stalks of vegetables.

Beef together with vegetables and its eggy gravy
Overall, I find that the food is quite good but not to die for. In regards to its pricing, it hard to find such portion loaded with slices of beef at such a reasonable cost.

Tanglin Halt Western Food

If you hear about the famous Satay that costs $0.38 per stick in Clementi Market and Food Centre, I bet that you have heard about Tanglin Halt Western Food too. They are located side by side to each other stalls manned by owned relatives.

Tanglin Halt Western Food

While most of the western food stalls in neighbourhood are selling at a minimum cost of $5.50, Tanglin Halt Western Food did the extra ordinary rate selling them at $4.50 for the plate of chicken cutlet without compromising the food quantity. Self service was observed with the queues piling up during dinner hours.

The gravy used was kind of different, brownish in color and sweet tasting topped onto the crispy chicken cutlet. The cutlet was fried to golden brown in color with substantial of meat within unlike some of the stall, their cutlet was filled of fatty meat under the batter.

3 other sides like bean beans, fries and coleslaw was included on the Cutlet dish too. They were of the ordinary and not much to write about.

Overall for economical Western Food, Tanglin Halt is still the best choice in Clementi.
