Lee 's Taiwanese

Posted on 14th December 2021

It's been a long time since I last visited Faber Drive and just recently we found out there Lee Taiwanese is located at the corner of the stretch of shophouses. The interior design remains humble without much aesthetic overhauling of the place. It looked run-down but there is a saying "do not judge a book by its cover".

Besides Wintermelon Tea, their Beverage menu is rather limited only with the Taiwanese Staple Iced Red Milk Tea. Nothing much interest me thus this choice of my drink is rather boring.

The Pig Intestines with Scallion is laudable. Innards were well braised and taken care of without any foul smell. The exterior was crisp and sprinkled with pepper. Cucumber pickles were given at the side of the plate.

The texture was perfect as we sink the teeth down into the crispy Pig Intestines that encased the strips of scallions.

These popcorn chickens are staples of Taiwanese Cuisine and its everywhere in the night market of Taiwan. The taste here is pretty authentic and the texture was comparable to what I had in Taiwan.
The dish is served with pickled cucumber.

The bite-size chicken is not oily at all and smelt fragrant in its salt and pepper dressing. Tender in the inside and with the battered coated on the outside.

The taste of the broth strikes a good balance of sour taste from the vinegar and the intestine was well prepared without any foul smell. You can't go wrong with such signature dish.

To be honest, I have always been craving for Railway Bento even when I'm in Taiwan. Their Railway Bento is of a big portion and I'm kind of surprised. The plate of Bento Meal comprises of one gigantic slab of pork chop coated with sweet-savoury dark sauce, braised eggs, sliced Tau Gua, greens and pickles.

The dark sauce given was so generous that it may be overpowering its taste and too salty to go without the white rice but for the portion at the price paid, this is indeed tempting.

Overall, I would say that the style of Taiwanese Cuisine is more towards an authentic taste instead of altering the recipe to suit the local Singaporean tastebud. I will make a return visit for other food in the menu and recommend anyone who enjoys Taiwanese food just like I do.

Revisited in December 2021

Century Egg tofu was quite ordinary and nothing special. Covered with LEE's special sauce on the cold silken tofu and topped with some bonito flakes as well as cut spring onions.

If you enjoy having a Taiwanese Bento Set, the LEE's Signature is a good choice too. The rice was coupled with braised minced pork, hard-boiled egg, cut bean curd, salt and pepper fried chicken as well as some pickled vegetables.

Wanted to try this on the previous trip but was too full with our orders. Their Signature Taiwanese Beef Noodle's broth was dark and had a strong familiar taste. Ingredients include noodles, leafy greens, sliced beef, pickles and hard-boiled egg.

The bowl was generously filled with 7 slices of braised beef. They are fork tender and melt in the mouth. If you are someone who prefers strong beefy taste noodles broth, this style will definitely suit you.

If you have been to Keelung in Taiwan and their Miao Kou Night Market, Lee's Tawainese offers something taste close. A pity that their operation hour starts from 12pm and they could have miss out a lot of offices lunch hour nearby.
