Simei Penang Laksa Speciality

Craving for Penang delights? If you are residing or passing by in the west, perhaps you may want to head down to Yuhua Market and Hawker Centre.

Articles pasted over the stalls shown that they have received a number of interviews from the press and even got feature in the local celebrity food hunt, Mediacorp's Channel 8 Program.

From the Media Press
In promoting healthier lifestyle with through the exercise with Singapore Health Promotion Board (HPB), they had their dish indicated with the amount of calories. For Penang Char Kway Teow, it consists of 500 kcal and whole grain noodles are used.

Comparing Penang's to Singapore Char Kway Teow, the significant difference is its color - a whiter version whereas Singapore's style of Char Kway Teow was coated with dark soy sauce and comes with cockles and Chinese sausage as part of its main ingredients.

The charred taste was not that much but the plate of Penang delicacies is definitely close to an authentic one with pork lard used and the correct moisture in it. Prawns, spring onions and beansprouts also make up part of the ingredients.

Penang Char Kway Teow - $3.50
Given a choice, I will prefer another dish from their stall which is none other than their Penang Laksa. Likewise, whole grain noodles were used here and this dish consist of  290 kcal - another healthier choice for the patrons.

It has a heady scent of prawn paste and the refreshing aroma taste from the mint leaves. Together with the soury taste of assam and generous serving of minced fish meat, Im sold.

Shredded vegetables were added and although the gravy may looks red hot spicy, the level of spice is little or close to none to me.

Revealing its noodles
A wait up to 10 minutes is inevitable during meal hours especially when Simei Penang Laksa Speciaility is one of the popular stalls among others in the Hawker Centre.

Overall, Penang Cuisine is not very common in most Hawker Centre and I would say that the standards are pretty good.
